The City’s compost pilot program is a drop-off program, accepting the first 50 (fifty) applicants. Participants will be provided with a kitchen food waste bin and a starter supply of biodegradable compost bags. Residents will drop their compost in the collection bin located adjacent to the Community Garden at Jim Ward Community Center (301 NW 46 Avenue). Resident will be provided with a code to access the collection bin.

  • What can I put in my kitchen food bin - Food scraps (fruits, veggies, coffee grounds, pasta, meats, fish, cheese, etc.) - basically anything that once lived or came from a living being!
  • How can I participate: Join the waitlist by submitting an application.
Collection Guidelines
  • Scrape it - Scrape leftover food scraps (fruits, veggies, coffee grounds) into your food waste scrap container.
  • Collect it - Place food scraps in your scrap container, lined with your compostable bag to prevent odors and leaks. The City will provide one 5-gallon bucket, one indoor kitchen scraps container, and a small quantity of compostable bags.
  • Drop it off - Head to Jim Ward Community Center during operating hours. Locate the drop off bin adjacent to the community garden.
  • Unload it - Enter the provided code (code will be provided after registration) into the keypad on the food waste container to deposit your food scrap.
  • Feel good! You've diverted food waste from landfills and contributed to a greener community.

Acceptable biodegradable compost bags to be used:

  • BioBag - also available on Amazon
  • EcoSafe - also available on Amazon

The food waste container will be inspected for excessive contamination. If food waste containers are found to have excessive contamination, the City reserves the right to deny access/terminate participation in the
program to anyone habitually depositing contaminated materials.
