Growing a Greener Plantation

The City of Plantation is excited to offer residents a free swale tree through our new Pilot Tree Planting Program. This is a collaborative effort to beautify your neighborhood, and enhance our urban canopy.

How it works:

If you have a suitable swale 10 feet or wider (the grass area between the sidewalk and street), you can apply to receive one tree from our approved species list. Once your application is reviewed, City staff will visit your property, confirm location and handle planting the tree.

City staff will return after 1 month to check condition and tree settlement.

Why plant a swale tree:

A single tree can make a big impact. It helps absorb rainwater, cools the neighborhood, strengthens soil, improves air quality, and adds natural beauty to your street. Planting the right tree in the right place keeps our community sustainable

Homeowner Role:

After planting, the homeowner’s responsibility includes watering, trimming, and long-term care. If the tree becomes damaged, unhealthy, or needs removal, it will be the homeowners responsibility to follow (City of Plantation Code of Ordinances Sec. 27-260). This approach ensures the long-term health and safety of Plantation’s urban forest.
