The City of Plantation Procurement Department recognizes the importance of responsible stewardship of public resources through purchasing practices that consider environmental sustainability while maintaining competition, fiscal responsibility, and operational effectiveness. The Department encourages the consideration of Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) practices when such products or services meet operational requirements, are available at a competitive cost, and are consistent with applicable laws, City policies, and procurement procedures.

When appropriate, departments are encouraged to consider products and services that:

• contain recycled content;
• are recyclable, reusable, compostable, or biodegradable where suitable;
• improve energy or water efficiency;
• reduce packaging waste;
• contain low- or zero-volatile organic compounds (VOC);
• reduce pollution or waste generation; and
• otherwise minimize adverse environmental impacts throughout the product's life cycle.

By incorporating these considerations into purchasing decisions, when practical and cost-effective, the City seeks to promote responsible resource management, protect public and employee health, and obtain the best overall value for taxpayers.
