The Plantation Police Department is comprised of the Office of the Chief of Police, two bureaus, and five divisions.

Office of the Chief of Police 

The Office of the Chief of Police provides executive leadership and strategic direction for the department while ensuring accountability, transparency, and community trust. This office oversees Internal Affairs, Media Relations, and the Police Chaplain. Together, these functions support the Chief’s vision of a professional, responsive, and community-focused police department.


The Administration Bureau is commanded by a Deputy Chief who oversees the General Services Division and the Support Services Division.

General Services Division 

The General Services Division provides essential administrative and logistical support to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the police department. This division is responsible for overseeing critical internal functions while ensuring compliance with internal controls and departmental policies to maintain accountability and operational readiness. The General Services Division includes the following units:

Support Services Division 

The Support Services Division plays a vital role in strengthening the foundation of the police department by overseeing specialized units that enhance both personnel development and community standards. This division works to enhance the professional growth, preparedness, and expansion of the department’s workforce and to enhance the quality of life in the community. The following units work together to contribute to the department’s overall effectiveness and commitment to excellence.


The Operations Bureau is headed by a Deputy Chief who oversees the Patrol Division, the Investigations Division, and the Special Operations Division.

Patrol Division 

The Patrol Division serves as the backbone of the police department, with officers assigned to this division patrolling the streets and neighborhoods of Plantation to ensure public safety and maintaining a visible presence in the community. These officers respond to calls for service, handle emergency situations, enforce traffic laws, and conduct initial investigations into crimes and other incidents, playing a crucial role in protecting residents and preserving the quality of life in the city.

Investigations Division 

The Investigations Division is responsible for conducting comprehensive follow-up investigations of felony and serious misdemeanor crimes occurring within the City of Plantation, with the goal of identifying, apprehending, and presenting offenders to the judicial system. Investigators work closely with patrol officers, other divisions, city departments, and local, state, and federal agencies, as well as members of the community, to solve crimes and prevent future offenses. By analyzing trends, preserving and examining evidence, engaging with students and school staff, and utilizing specialized investigative tools, the division plays a critical role in protecting lives, solving cases, and enhancing the overall safety and quality of life in Plantation. The division includes the following units:

  • Vice, Intelligence, & Narcotics (VIN) Unit
  • Crime Scene Unit
  • Digital Forensics Unit
  • Crime Analysis Unit
  • Victim Advocate
  • School Resources Unit

Special Operations Division 

The Special Operations Division is comprised of dynamic and multifaceted units within the police department that provides specialized support and enforcement to enhance public safety and address a wide range of community needs. Personnel assigned to these units are highly trained in areas such as traffic safety and enforcement, narcotics and gang suppression, critical incident response, crowd control, and ceremonial representation. By combining proactive enforcement with rapid response capabilities, the Special Operations Division plays a vital role in maintaining order, reducing crime, and supporting the overall mission of the department. The division is made up of the following units.

  • Street Crimes Unit
  • Crisis Response Team (CRT)
  • Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team
  • Field Force Team
  • Honor Guard
