LWOP is applicable when the employee does not have sufficient annual leave or comp time accruals to cover the anticipated period of absence.

Sick leave cannot be used for this purpose unless the need for LWOP is medically related.

LWOP also results in no Annual Leave or Sick Leave accruals for that pay period.

The employee must come to Human Resources prior to the start of his/her approved LWOP in order to obtain information on the options available regarding his/her City of Plantation retirement contributions, VALIC loan payments, and make arrangements for the payment of his/her health insurance or voluntary benefit premiums.

Employees can have up to 5 separate accounts. All you need to do is provide payroll with new bank account information and they will assist you in setting up the new account(s). In addition, you can change the amounts of any account(s) as many times as you wish throughout the year.

Issued by either a court order or Government entity (i.e. IRS)

The only authority that can stop a garnishment is the court or Government entity that issued the original garnishment order. Employees are not able to request a stoppage of any garnishment, but may elect to increase the amount being paid.

Employees are able to change their Federal tax withholdings as many times as you wish throughout the year? No appointment necessary, just visit payroll and fill out a new W-4 and they will process your request for the next paycheck.

Employees claiming "exempt" status are required to submit a new W-4 by February of each year in order to maintain an exempt status.

Employees that have a VALIC account 457(b) plan are able to request a loan against 50% of their total account balance for emergency situations or other personal financial hardship(s) up to $50,000.

To request a loan application contact Valic.com or Steve Sallee, Financial Advisor, Valic at 954- 702-1362. You must visit Human Resource s to obtain the required plan administrator signature on your loan document(s) . Once completed, Human Resources will fax your request directly to VALIC.

In addition, if you want to receive your loan monies via direct deposit, you must have a bank account prior to receiving any funds.

If you do not have a verified direct deposit account with VALIC, you will be required to obtain a "Medallion Signature Guarantee" stamp from your financial institution prior to processing your loan request.
