LWOP is applicable when the employee does not have sufficient annual leave or comp time accruals to cover the anticipated period of absence.
Sick leave cannot be used for this purpose unless the need for LWOP is medically related.
LWOP also results in no Annual Leave or Sick Leave accruals for that pay period.
The employee must come to Human Resources prior to the start of his/her approved LWOP in order to obtain information on the options available regarding his/her City of Plantation retirement contributions, VALIC loan payments, and make arrangements for the payment of his/her health insurance or voluntary benefit premiums.
