Support your Hometown Library by joining the Friends of the Library!

A small group of “FRIENDS” who shared a common interest in books formed the Friends of the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library on October 22, 1970. Their mission was to “promote and foster the use and growth of the Plantation Library.” A by-laws committee was chosen, and its recommendations were discussed and approved on November 19, 1970. Charter membership closed on June 1, 1971 with 57 members. The organizers chose the second Monday of each month from September through May for the monthly meeting, which is held at 9:30am in the Library.

Little Free Libraries are sponsored by the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library and Friends of the Library in cooperation with Parks and Recreation (locations) and Public Works (construction).

The Little Free Libraries in City of Plantation Parks are book-sharing boxes where anyone may take a book or share a book. They function on the honor system. You do not need to share a book in order to take one. If you take a book or two, please try to bring some to share in that same library or another when you can. The Friends of the Library take care of basic maintenance such as keeping the Little Libraries clean, inviting, and stocked, but it is up to the community to help by sharing books that are in good condition and appropriate in nature for public spaces.

Library materials that are checked out from the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library must not be returned in the Little Libraries. The Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library is not responsible for missing items that were placed in a Little Free Library.

Membership applications for joining Friends are available at the Library.

Active Membership dues are $15 per year. Other types of membership include:

• Associate ($20)
• Patron ($30)
• Benefactor ($100)
• Life ($1,000)

Active members are required to attend five meetings and to work ten hours on accepted projects of the club. If attendance at meetings is not possible, members may elect to work twenty hours on accepted projects per year.

Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month, September through May. Meeting location takes place a the Library in the multi-purpose room at 9:30 a.m.

The Friends have monthly sales in the Used Book Store at the library and have a limited selection of items for sale in the Library Lobby.

* Donations of gently used books, DVDs and CDs may be left in the bins on the west side of the library. No VHS, magazines or records please.
