FRIENDS OF THE HELEN B. HOFFMAN PLANTATION LIBRARY
A small group of "FRIENDS" who shared a common interest in books formed the FRIENDS OF THE HELEN B. HOFFMAN PLANTATION LIBRARY on October 22, 1970. Their mission was to "promote and foster the use and growth of the Plantation Library." A by-laws committee was chosen, and its recommendations were discussed and approved on November 19, 1970. Charter membership closed on June 1, 1971 with 57 members.

The organizers chose the second Monday of each month from September through May for the monthly meeting, which was to be held at 9:30 am in the Library. On October 22, 2000, "FRIENDS" marked its 30th year as a successful organization in Plantation.

In the past years the Friends have contributed over a million dollars to the Library. The money has been earned through book sales, author luncheons, fashion shows, and other activities.
