LANDSCAPE ORDINANCES
  • Our ordinances cover many areas

Permits - Permits are required to move a tree or remove a tree.

Palms - We recommend removing only fruits and dead fronds. If you trim your palm fronds, please abide by our 9:00/3:00 rule: after pruning, the tip of the palm cannot be higher than the base of the frond where it connects to a tree.

Trimming - trimming should not remove more than 25 percent of a tree’s crown by any means. Never top a tree!!! Pruning standards must be compliant with ANSI A300 and safety standards must be compliant with ANSI Z133.1.

Tree Trimmers- must have insurance and a Broward County Tree Trimmer’s License

Tree Removal- a permit, which is attainable only through the Landscape Architect Department must be present before you can remove a tree, even if the tree is badly damaged or dead.

Fencing Requirements - Appropriate landscaping is required for fences.

Swales- Swale trees are the property of the City. The City carries out the plantings, and we split the cost with the homeowner through our Street Tree Program.
