The Information Technology (IT) Department handles all aspects of technology for the City of Plantation, and has created of a state-of-the-art Data Center located at City Hall. The City utilizes technologies from industry leaders such as Microsoft, Cisco, Motorola, and Intel, to bring its many IT projects to fruition. Throughout the various City locations the IT Department utilizes the latest in fiber, Ethernet, and wireless technologies to support high speed access to applications, fulfill the need for fault tolerance and security, and enable mobile users within our Public Safety Departments.
The IT department is responsible for the design and maintenance of the entire network infrastructure that links the various City departments together. This also includes supporting the many computers, printers, plotters, and scanners, which allow the various departments to daily serve our constituents. IT provides for the secure interdepartmental sharing of information and applications, which allow the City to function on a day-to-day basis.
IT also maintains the many databases that City departments use, including GIS, Financials, Permitting, and others. Providing 99.999% uptime and security for the data they contain. Additionally, IT maintains the City’s website, including the internal employees Intranet and other web services. |
