Mission Statement
To implement, encourage and support dependable government administration for roadway/ transportation enhancement, interdepartmental capital improvements and private development/re-development through technology, sound engineering principles and high level customer service. To plan, administer and maintain a functional and compliant government storm water management program for the protection and benefit of the citizens and properties in Plantation.
The City of Plantation Engineering Department is a customer-oriented department providing a wide variety of professional services to the Plantation Community. Department staff is trained to put the customer first and provide the best service and response possible. The Department’s primary responsibility involves administration and enforcement of all activities within City public rights-of-way that include roadways, storm drainage, traffic engineering and street lighting.
An important function of the Engineering Department is administration of City Capital Improvements projects. Projects that are designed and constructed through the Engineering Department include all improvements within City public rights-of-way as well as City parks and redevelopment projects.
The Engineering Department serves as CRS coordinator for the City’s participation in the Community Rating System (CRS) sponsored by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP.) Through voluntary participation in the program, the City secures discounted flood insurance rates for all property owners within Plantation. Participation in the CRS Program is only one of several important Department functions related to flood prevention for the City.
Traffic is a fact of life in the City of Plantation. The Engineering Department performs various traffic-engineering functions for the effective management of traffic within our community. This includes coordination with County and State agencies for traffic signalization and access management as well as administration of the Neighborhood Traffic Management Partnership Program (NTMP2) that offers traffic calming solutions to affected neighborhoods.
The Engineering Department is actively involved with private development. The Department performs review and approval of private development plans for engineering improvements as an element of the City’s development review process. Once a private development has successfully completed the development review process, permit and inspection services are provided for engineering improvements associated with roads, parking lots, driveways, sidewalks and storm drainage systems.
The Engineering Department also administers the City Brick Entryway Partnership Program. Qualifying neighborhoods may partnership with the City on a 50/50 cost share basis to have the City construct an entryway feature at the entrance to their neighborhood off designated public roadways. |
