CITY OF
WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEM FOREMAN
This is a non-exempt position which is responsible work in assisting the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor in planning and directing a comprehensive maintenance and repair program of the Utility Departments wastewater collection system.
An employee in this classification is responsible for inspecting lift stations, gravity sewer mains, manholes, and sanitary sewer laterals for malfunctions, or safety hazards, assisting crew when necessary, and maintaining various types of records. This employee must have the knowledge, experience and ability to supervise skilled employees in the maintenance and repair of intricate wastewater systems and to recognize the safety hazards associated with the trade. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Supervises and participates in the maintenance and repairs of sanitary sewer mains, manholes, force mains, lift stations, and laterals.
Compiles and maintains accurate records.
Inspects the work performed by the wastewater collection crew.
Assists with repairs and maintenance of the waste water system.
Exercises care and safety in use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks and knowledge safety rules and regulations prescribed by the City.
Assists the Water Distribution and Meter crews when necessary.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of the repair and maintenance requirements of wastewater collection systems.
Knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment used in the work assigned.
Complete knowledge of the safety and occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
Knowledge of modern methods of personal supervision.
Ability to comply with all state and local regulations regarding wastewater systems.
Ability to read and understand blueprints as well as record drawings.
Ability to compile and maintain accurate records.

Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
Ability to supervise in a manner conductive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to understand and follow instructions and to complete work assignments correctly.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with City employees, departmental officials, and the general public.
Skilled in the use and care of all tools and equipment required for the operation and maintenance of departmental facilities.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Have graduated from a standard high school or possess a GED.
At least two years supervisory experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of sanitary sewer mains, lift stations, and force mains.
Class A license in Wastewater Collection Operations as issued by the Florida Water and Pollution Control Operator’s Association or ability to obtain license.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience or training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
Ability to operate heavy equipment.
Ability to read and understand blueprints and record drawings.
Ability to operate a City vehicle and maintain and possess a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement.
This classification may be designated as
required to work for declared emergencies.
Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the
appropriate level is mandatory.
This is a designated “Response” classification
in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying
this position to work for declared emergencies.
