VEHICLE
SERVICE AIDE
DEFINITION
This is a non-exempt position, which is light mechanical work in
the maintenance of Police Department vehicles.
An employee in this
classification is responsible for performing light mechanical maintenance work,
wash and wax City vehicles and transport vehicles to
service centers. The employee in this
classification assists the Maintenance Specialist of the Police Department.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Transports vehicles to and from
service centers.
Wash and wax vehicles.
Inspects vehicles for fluid
levels and tire pressure.
Assists the Maintenance
Specialist of the Police Department.
Performs related work as
required and as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Basic knowledge of motor
vehicle fluids.
Basic knowledge of less complex
motor vehicle parts.
Knowledge of vehicle safety practices.
Ability to wash, wax and clean
vehicles.
Ability to perform light
maintenance on vehicles.
Ability to perform manual labor
for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions.
Ability to understand and carry
out instructions and to complete work assignments correctly.
Ability to operate a City
vehicle and possess the required license.
Ability to establish and
maintain an effective working relationship with other City employees.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Some basic auto maintenance
experience.

designated “Will-Call Recovery” classification in the City’s Emergency
Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work
for declared emergencies. Attendance at
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is
mandatory.
