CITY
OF
UTILITY PLANT OPERATOR
ASSISTANT - WILL-CALL
This
is a non-exempt, semi-skilled position of a will-call nature. The person in this classification works in
the operation and/or maintenance of a Water and/or Wastewater Treatment
facility, working closely with a licensed Plant Operator as needed to assist
the operator in performance of their regular duties.
Assist
the Operator in the performance of their regular operational and mechanical
duties and in performance of laboratory analyses (i.e. take readings of time
equipment has run; amount of chemicals used in a given period; chemical
analyses performed on various treatment parameters).
Assist
the Operator in the recording of accurate operational information, analyses and
record keeping.
Performs
other related duties as required and as directed.
Some
knowledge of the techniques and general principles used in the purification of
potable drinking water and/or the treatment of domestic wastewater.
Some
knowledge of the mechanical and electrical equipment used in the treatment
processes.
Ability
to understand and carry out instructions and to complete work assignments
correctly.
Ability
to work flexible hours, days, nights and weekends.
Ability
to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other City
employees and the general public.
Graduation from a standard high school, or possession of a GED certificate from a recognized issuing agency, supplemented by experience in the water and/or wastewater treatment field. The person in this classification should hold a “Certified Operator” license as issued by the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in water and/or wastewater treatment or notification from same of successfully passing the state exam for licensure as a “Certified Operator”, or completion of an approved FDEP certification prerequisite course.
Any
equivalent combination of education, experience or training which provides the
required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
This is a designated “Will-Call Recovery“
classification in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the
employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management
System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
NOTE: This job classification is designated as a
“safety sensitive” or a “special risk” position, therefore, an employee in this
