CITY OF
UTILITIES LOCATOR
This is a non-exempt position, which is skilled technical work in the maintenance, location, troubleshooting and inspection of water and sewer mains, services, manholes and lift stations.
An employee in this classification performs work assignments that are general in nature and is expected to work independently in selecting proper methods and procedures to perform duties. Work is reviewed while in progress through observation, conferences and reports.
Responsible for locating all water and sewer lines, manholes, fire hydrants, lift stations and associated electrical lines.
Monitors and prioritizes incoming locate requests.
Maintains “Utilities Department As Built” records by updating, filing and general archive maintenance.
Inspects new utility construction for compliance to utility standards.
Performs skilled work of a specialized nature involving reading utility plans and operation of complicated electronic locating equipment.
May install, maintain and repair water and sewer lines, manholes, meters, fire hydrants and associated equipment.
Performs related work as required and as directed.
Knowledge of the standard practices used for locating utilities lines.
Knowledge of and the ability to read complex utility plans.
Knowledge of and the ability to operate state-of-the-art location equipment.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of proper use of safety procedures.
Ability to operate equipment used for repair of water and sewer lines and water meters.
Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees, Engineers, Contractors, City Officials and the general public.

Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent or four (4) years of experience in water and wastewater utilities systems, performing all related work necessary to maintain a water and wastewater system.
Minimum Class “C” FW & PCOA Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection license.
This is a designated “Recovery” classification
in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying
this position to work for declared emergencies.
Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the
appropriate level is mandatory.
NOTE: This job classification is designated as a “safety
sensitive” or “special risk” position, therefore an employee in this position
