SPECIAL EVENT LEADER

 

DEFINITION

 

This is a non-exempt position, which is routine recreation work designed to assist in the creation, implementation and running of special events for the Parks and Recreation Department.  An employee in this classification also assists in seeking sponsorships for events and assist outside groups with events held at City facilities.  Work is performed under the direction of the Special Event Coordinator.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

 

Assist in the creation, implementation and running of special events for the Parks and Recreation Department.

 

Assist in the publicity of all special events.

 

Assist in seeking sponsorships for events and coordinating prizes.

 

Assist various groups and organizations with events held at City facilities.

 

Recommend purchase of necessary supplies and equipment pertinent to special events.

 

Maintain records, reports and reference materials.

 

Performs related work as required and as directed.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

 

Some knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation and group activities. 

 

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

 

Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and procedures.

 

Ability to create, implement and oversee special events held at City facilities.

 

Ability to operate or learn to operate Microsoft Publisher PC program.

 

Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to complete work assignments correctly.

 

Ability to maintain records, reports and reference materials.

 

Ability to adhere to a tight schedule and still maintains work quality.

 

Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed for special events.

 

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to assist groups and organizations with events held at city facilities.

 

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, City officials and the general public.

 

Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.

 

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

 

Graduation from a standard high school or possess a GED from a recognized issuing agency.  Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skill may be considered.

 

This is a designated “Recovery” classification in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
