CITY
OF
SPECIAL CLASS INSTRUCTOR I
DEFINITION
This is a
non-exempt position, which is recreational and/or aquatics work of an
instructional nature in specialized activities.
An employee in
this classification is responsible for providing instruction on a part-time
basis. Work is performed under the
direction of a Facility Manager and/or an Aquatics Manager. The managers formulate the general policies,
schedule classes and assist in seeing that the activity is provided with
adequate space and necessary materials in order to attain the desired
objectives.
EXAMPLES
OF WORK PERFORMED
Coordinates and
implements a program of an instructional nature.
Organizes and
instructs groups in specialized activities.
Works closely
with facility manager on needs and evaluation of the program.
Maintains
discipline and encourages compliance with safety rules and regulations.
Maintains and
submits records of attendance.
Performs related
duties as required and as directed.
KNOWLEDGE,
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Ability to
provide instructions to participants engaged in specialized activity.
Ability to
demonstrate good public relations skills.
Ability to
develop positive interest by leading groups in specialized activities.
Ability to
maintain and submit records of attendance.
Ability to work
closely with management on needs and evaluation of the program.
Ability to
maintain discipline and encourage compliance with safety rules and regulations.
Ability to
establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other municipal
employees and the general public.
DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Certification in
the area of specialty.
This is a designated “Will-Call Recovery”
classification in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee
occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is
mandatory.
