IT PC TECHNICIAN I

 

DEFINITION      

 

This is a non-exempt position, which is responsible technical work in the set-up and maintenance of desktop and laptop computers and trouble-shooting user issues.  Generally known as “Help Desk” issue resolution.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED      

 

Install, configure and maintain PC hardware, peripheral and application software.

 

Executes proper programs for scheduled tasks and monitors processing, and makes necessary responses.

 

Observes, records and reports software and hardware problems to supervisor.

 

Assists user departments on Microsoft Office Suite, Windows 2000, Windows XP and other application software.

 

Assists in other daily operations as needed.

 

Performs related work as required and as directed.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS      

 

Knowledge of and the ability to install, configure and maintain PC hardware, peripheral and application software.

 

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

 

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Windows 2000/XP.

 

Ability to effectively troubleshoot PC hardware, software and peripheral and resolve issues in a timely manner.

 

Ability to learn software packages and software tools.

 

Ability to work with confidential data and maintain such confidence.

 

Ability to prioritize assigned tasks and work independently to complete tasks in a timely manner.

 

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other City employees.

 

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING      

 

Graduation from a standard high school or an equivalent recognized certificate; a minimum of two (2) years experience in a technical position supporting PC hardware, peripheral and software.  A+ certification and LAN knowledge preferred.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.

 

This is a designated “Recovery” classification in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NISM) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
