CITY OF
IRRIGATION SPECIALIST
This is a non-exempt position, which is responsible, under general supervision, to lead and participate in performing repairs, replacements and installation of irrigation systems and minor plumbing maintenance and repairs for the Parks Division of the Parks & Recreation Department and any other related duties as required. Work may be subject to review and inspection by a superior while in progress and upon completion.
Plans, supervises and coordinates the activities of the Irrigation Crew, materials and equipment..
Installs, repairs and maintains the irrigation systems for parks, trees, sports fields and other landscaped areas as required.
Establishes and adjusts sprinkler run lengths, including the installation of time clocks that operate the irrigation systems, and adjust as needed.
Replaces existing water lines and/or pipes as needed.
Inspects, and repairs backflow devices, water lines and/or pipes as needed.
Repairs or replaces parts for drinking fountains in parks and community center buildings.
Repairs or replaces parts for toilets in parks and community center buildings.
Maintains inventory of parts, supplies and equipment used for irrigation systems.
Compiles and maintains records of irrigation systems and submits reports on conditions of all irrigation systems to the Park Division
Enforces safety procedures and precautions.
Performs any assigned duty before, during and after a declared emergency.
Performs related work as required and directed for the
benefit of the City of
Trains staff, works well with other facets of Parks Division.
Must posses the knowledge, abilities and skill in installing, maintaining and repairing modern day irrigation systems.
Knowledge of the operation for clocks/timers for irrigation systems.

Ability to operate various pieces of maintenance equipment and tools, used in the installation and repair of irrigation systems.
Ability to troubleshoot irrigation systems for needed repairs or replacement.
Ability to maintain records an submit reports on conditions of all irrigation systems.
Ability to establish a comprehensive maintenance program on all irrigation systems.
Ability to spot problems and identify grass/sod/turf damage caused by lack or water and/or too much water.
Ability to supervise and maintain a high morale with staff.
Ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with departmental officials, other municipal employees and the general public.
Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess a valid
Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and/or experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties associated with this position. Additional experience in a supervisory capacity is also necessary.
This is a designated “Response” classification
in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying
this position to work for declared emergencies.
Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the
appropriate level is mandatory.
