II - ELECTRICIAN
DEFINITION
This is a non-exempt position, which is skilled
electrical work in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems and
equipment.
An employee in this classification is
responsible for carrying out assignments requiring the use of electrical
techniques in the maintenance and new construction of City property. Work assignments may be accompanied by
sketches, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.
The employee applies personal knowledge and skills in completing such
assignments. Work is subject to
inspection while in progress and is checked upon completion.
EXAMPLES
OF WORK PERFORMED
Installs, maintains, repairs and tests
electrical wiring systems, fixtures and electrical equipment for all municipal
departments.
Installs and repairs fluorescent, industrial and
general lighting fixtures and connections.
Wires buildings and makes additions to existing
wiring.
May perform or assist in other related building
trades work.
Records time and material used on various
projects.
Performs related work as required and as
directed.
KNOWLEDGE,
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the standard practices, tools and
terminology of the electrical trade.
Knowledge of and the ability to install,
maintain, repair and test electrical wiring systems, fixtures and electrical
equipment.
Considerable knowledge of the City and State
electrical codes.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the
trade and of the proper use of safety devices and practices.
Ability to make repairs to complicated
electrical wiring, fixtures and equipment.
Ability to work at moderate heights.
Ability to work from drawings and specifications
and to understand and carry out instructions.
Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess
the required license.
Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still
maintain work quality.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective
working relationship with departmental officials, other municipal employees and
the general public.
Skill in the care and use of the tools and
equipment of the trade.
Skill in locating and adjusting defects in
electrical systems and equipment.
DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited high school or
vocational school. Experience as a
journeyman electrician in industrial and commercial maintenance work, Master
Electrical license desired, or any equivalent combination of experience and
training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be
considered.
This is a designated Response classification
in the Citys Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying
this position to work for declared emergencies.
Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the
appropriate level is mandatory.
