CITY OF
CODE ENFORCEMENT SUPERVISOR
DEFINITION
This is a non-exempt position within the Code Enforcement Unit, which is responsible for the monitoring and supervision of the unit’s activity.
The
employee in this classification is responsible for assignment of personnel
within the unit, monitoring the daily activity and assigning cases as
needed. The supervisor will address
complaints as it relates to the employee under the direct command, and
complaints that are received from citizens.
The
supervisor will complete biannual evaluations of employees assigned to the Unit
and develop a professional atmosphere of cooperation within the Unit and
throughout the city.
Directs
management studies involving organization policy, methods and procedures for
the purpose of increasing effectiveness of the Unit’s operation, designing and
evaluating the processes as needed.
Provides
training and review of City Code and its application.
Researches
City Code Ordinances for clarification of violation as the need warrants.
Reviews
cases generated by the code enforcement examiners for proper application of the
City
Code.
Reviews
and approves notices of violation that are presented to the Code Enforcement
Board.
Reviews
complaints that are generated from City Officials, assigning as warranted and
updating the City Official as needed.
Maintains
a file on each employee and complete reviews as assigned.
Maintains
a payroll book for each employee assigned to the Unit.
Prepares
a monthly and yearly report of Unit’s activity.
Attends
monthly meetings as directed and warranted.
Performs
related work as required and as directed.
Considerable knowledge of established codes, ordinances and regulations.
Knowledge
of legal procedures as related to the enforcement of regulatory codes.
Knowledge
of modern office practices and procedures to include application and usages of
Microsoft Office Package and Accela.
Ability
to operate a city vehicle and possess
the required license.
Ability
to manage and accomplish tasks through others.
Ability
to resolve conflict problems as they develop both externally in the field and
also within the office area.
Excellent
communication skills, with the ability to represent the Department at meetings
and other organized events. This
employee will communicate regularly with City officials and business leaders
within the community.
DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from a standard high school or an equivalent recognized certificate.
College experience is preferred with a minimum of three years experience in Code Enforcement.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, ability and skills may be considered.
Must
currently possess or be eligible to obtain, a
This is a designated "Will-Call Recovery”
classification in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the
employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance
at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level
is mandatory.
