CADD/ENGINEER
TECHNICIAN
DEFINITION
This is a non-exempt position, which is skilled work in design
drafting and development of Engineering related facilities.
Work involves performing manual and computer drafting,
mathematical computations, graphics, lay-out of special assignments and related
office or field work, as well as development of factual information required
for planning, inspection of projects as required. Work is performed under the direction of the
Department Head. Work is reviewed for
accuracy, completeness, technical quality and consistency with City policy
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Administers project assignments under the direction of the
Department Head.
Develops design drawings from preliminary field surveys or other
suitable information.
Drafts sketches, lay-out plans and technical drawings for
Engineering projects both on computer and manually.
Inputs and maintains data and graphics on City’s Bentley
Microstation CAD software.
Assists in the inspection of roads, highways, storm sewers, and
other public works or private development construction projects in the City
right-of-way to assure conformance with plans and specifications.
Maintains records, reports, reference materials and drawing
files.
Confers with architects, engineers and city officials.
Performs related work as required and as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge and experience in use of Bentley Microstation CAD
software products.
Considerable knowledge and skill in the use of standard drafting
tools, equipment and drafting
nomenclature.
Knowledge of principles, practices and terminologies of
architects, engineers and developers.
Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, trigonometry and
plane geometry.
Knowledge of the basic principles and practices involved in
civil engineering design and
construction.
Ability to prepare complex drawings neatly and accurately.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings and maps with a high
degree of accuracy.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.
Ability to establish and maintain a positive and effective
working relationship with Engineering Department Staff, other City employees,
City officials and the general public.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from a two year accredited college or university with
major course work in engineering/architectural drafting or design.
Minimum 2 years experience in use of Microstation CADD products
relating to Engineering/ Architectural Drafting and/or design.
Experience in performing inspections of civil
engineering/architectural construction.
Additional engineering and/or technical training relating to
public works projects.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training
which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
This is
a designated ‘Recovery’ classification in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan
and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared
emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management
System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
