                                            ASSOCIATE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

 

DEFINITION

 

This is an exempt position, which is professional and technical work involving various aspects of landscape architecture within the City.

 

An employee in this classification is responsible for and requires the ability to develop landscape architectural projects from concept to implementation; work with the development community on a professional level and with the general public at a comprehendible level.  This position requires the ability to work with a multitude of City departments and other governmental agencies. 

 

The duties of this position may include preparation of design documents for projects, conceptual site planning, review of site development plans for conformance with City codes and ordinances, on site coordination and inspection of projects, represent the Landscape Architecture Department at meetings and a host of other activities that may arise in the course of the department’s daily activities.

 

This position will report directly to the City Landscape Architect.

 

EXAMPLE OF WORK PERFORMED

 

Preparation of design documents that may include site, planting, lighting and irrigation plans.

 

Reviews plans from private developers for conformance to City codes and ordinances.

 

Reviews Site inventories and analysis.

 

Provides technical knowledge assistance on a myriad of landscape architectural issues.

 

Works in conjunction and coordinate projects with the Landscape Inspector and City Urban Forester and other departments within the City.

 

Assists the City Landscape Architect in daily activities.

 

Performs related work as required and as directed.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

 

Knowledge of basic principles and practices of landscape architecture.

 

Comprehensive knowledge of South Florida plant material and associated horticultural practices (e.g. soils, fertilization, maintenance, etc.).

 

Possess knowledge of CAD (computer aided drafting), either Auto Cad or Microstation systems.

 

Understanding and familiarity of south Florida ecosystems (especially those man-made).

Ability to assist the City Landscape Architect in daily activities.

 

Ability to manage a project from design to implementation.

 

Ability to provide technical knowledge assistance on landscape architectural issues.

 

Ability to read and understand architectural plans, site plans, engineering plans, planting plans, and other plans related to property development.

 

Ability to comprehend ordinances and codes, and develop the same.

 

Ability to prepare plans for presentation to City staff, administration, and the public.

 

Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.

 

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with departmental officials, other employees and the general public.

 

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

 

Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university or college.

 

Minimum of one year experience in a landscape architecture office of similar setting.

 

Any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.

 

This is a designated “Response” classification in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies.  Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
