It’s never too early—nor too late—to make decisions regarding your future medical care. Learn the importance of communicating your medical wishes to family and friends at Covenant Village of Florida’s Thursday at 2 program on Thursday, May 1, 2 p.m., at Covenant Village of Florida, 9201 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation. Hospice by the Sea’s Sister Maria Elena Larrea, OSF, will present “What are your five wishes for end-of-life care?” She will discuss the struggles families face when medical decisions are not in place and explain how to best communicate medical decisions to family and friends. Free Hearing Screenings

The League for the Hard of Hearing will provide “free hearing screenings” available to the public Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. No appointment needed. For “Free Screening” for children please call our office for specific times and dates. Specialized Amplified Telephones will also be provided at no cost to all eligible Florida residents with hearing loss by Florida Telecommunications Relay, Inc.

Listen To Children Program

The Listen To Children program, sponsored by the Broward County Mental Health Association, needs caring adults who can meet with children one-on-one in elementary schools. Volunteer your time one to two hours per week. Training is provided in effective listening, cultural competence problem solving. Volunteers are needed. Many people are the sole caregivers of their spouses or family members with Alzheimer's Disease, and have problems getting to the bank, shopping for groceries and keeping appointments. By giving a few hours of your time, you can provide the respite many caregivers need. Volunteers are trained to be companions and can select the day and time to volunteer that best fits their schedules. If you are able to spare a few hours of your time each week, please call Kathy Cochrane, Volunteer Coordinator for the Alzheimer's Family Center, (954) 971-7155.
Plantation Police Department Car Seat Inspections
The Plantation Police Department will no longer be doing car seat inspections at the Fashion Mall. However, they will be done on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Toy-R-Us, located at 8101 Broward Blvd., from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, on a first come first served basis.
