City of Plantation Code Amnesty Program

The City of Plantation City is currently offering an incentive, known as the “Code Amnesty Program,” designed to bring properties throughout the City into compliance and to offer a reduction in the face value of the code enforcement lien the City’s records indicate is against your property.  The Program commenced on May 1, 2017 and ends on November 15, 2018, and is applicable to code liens received prior to December 31, 2016.

In order to participate in the Program, your property must be in compliance (or be brought into compliance within a specified timeframe), and you must enter into a Participation Agreement with the City that stipulates that you will pay a reduced amount of your code lien by November 15, 2018.  Your code lien reduction will be based on the matrix below.

Code Lien Range Customer pays Example of a $500,000 code lien
$0 – $50,000 15% $50,000 x 15% =$7,500
$50,001 – $150,000 15% applicable on the first $50,000; plus
10% on amounts between $50,001 and $150,000
$100,000 x 10% = $10,000

Customer pays $38,750

Please contact the City’s Code Enforcement Division at 954-797-2267 if you have any questions concerning what must be done to bring your property into compliance. If you execute the Participation Agreement, upon receipt of the payment, the City will satisfy and release the lien.

For additional information, to see if you qualify, and an application to participate, please contact the City by calling 954-797-2723 or via email at dmehler@plantation.org.  Please remember that this incentive is available for a limited time only, beginning May 1, 2017 and ending on November 15, 2018.

After a Participation Agreement is executed, the City will not take legal proceedings to enforce the code case lien, except when the City concludes after giving notice that diligent efforts are not being made to correct any life safety violations within the Agreement’s timeframe.  Without the benefit of the Amnesty Program, the City reserves all of its rights to enforce the code case lien.

For properties who do not participate in the Program, the City reserves all of its rights to enforce the code case lien.  Properties that apply for participation in the Program and at the end of the Program are still non-compliant or have not paid the outstanding liens are also subject to the City’s legal proceedings to enforce the lien.  The City’s legal enforcement proceedings may include foreclosure actions on properties that are non-homesteaded.
