PUBLIC WORKS DIVISIONS
Crafts Division
Our Crafts Division is a construction company within itself, with expertise in all phases of construction management including project design, cost estimating, and implementation. In the past year alone, we have taken on construction projects including the design and renovation of several offices in City Hall, an identification and conference room in the Police Department, the Community Redevelopment office and Fire Station #1.

More visible projects include the construction of the City and neighborhood entryway signs, the practice wall at Veltri Tennis Center, new electronic score boards at Sunset Park, traffic-calming pillars at NW 5th Street, ADA compliant bathrooms at the Historical Museum and bus shelters at the Pine Island bus terminal.

Garage Division
Our Garage Division has a staff of ten members that maintain all of the City's 497 motor vehicles, 696 pieces of trenching machines and various other landscape machinery. Routine maintenance may range from engine diagnostics and preventive maintenance to major repair work.

Maintenance Division
The Grass Maintenance Division provides assistance to many divisions, but mainly supports the landscaping crews. Their work can be seen in the beautification of Broward Boulevard, Country Club Circle, Jim Ward Community Center and the NW 42nd Avenue and 5th Street traffic-calming project.

The hard work and dedication of our 13-member Landscape Crew is evidenced by their achievements during this past year, which include the installation of 10,000 vibrant colorful annuals, 1,270 trees, 5,900 plants/shrubbery and 100 yards of mulch providing us the esthetic beauty our City is recognized for.

As active participants in the City's annual Arbor Week celebration, the Landscape Crew planted trees and demonstrated tree-trimming techniques at several schools. Examples such as this, along with the installation of an environmental habitat at Plantation Park Elementary, show that the Landscape Crew is not only committed to help beautify our educational facilities, but also raise awareness of our environment and its importance to our children.

To take extra efforts to preserve City trees, they relocated over 50 trees this year, rather than destroying them, an ongoing practice saving thousands of dollars each year.

Sprinkler Division
Our 6-member crew is responsible for the installation and maintenance of 131 irrigation systems throughout the City that provide water to the hundreds of plants, trees and flowers installed by the Landscape Division. Installation requires careful planning of depth, distance, pump location, water supply, electrical supply and proper drainage. With expertise in more than just outside irrigation systems, the Sprinkler Division also recently designed and installed a new, updated fire alarm system at City Hall.

Streets/Drainage Division
The Streets/Drainage Division continues to follow a maintenance plan and schedule of cleaning catch basis, drain lines, outfalls and drainage ditches. Pavement management and re-surfacing neighborhood streets are continuous, with installation of over a half million square yards of new pavement this year alone. Roadways are chosen by condition and the remaining surface life of the pavement. Maintenance of traffic signage, striping and traffic markings are all part of a program that follows Florida Department of Transportation standards.
