DID YOU KNOW? There is a new bag in town.
The City of Plantation requires that the majority of homeowners purchase “blue” garbage bags at local retailers for garbage disposal. As of October 1, 2015, there will be a new, smaller, “kitchen” size (24” X 28”) bag with drawstrings. The cost will be $5.00 for a roll of five bags.

2016 Solid Waste Guidelines & Bulk Pick-up Schedule
Sometime ago, the City Council and Mayor looked into ways to better serve the waste collection needs and requirements of our community. With that in mind, a “pay as you throw” or blue bag system for refuse collection was established. This system offers residents a true “user-fee” based collection program and, at the same time, enhances the aesthetics of the neighborhoods by doing away with unsightly garbage pails with various and sundry refuse containers being left at the curb before and after garbage collection. It was decided that the western areas of the City would best be served by utilizing 96-gallon roll-out carts for their collection needs twice weekly at a prescribed monthly billing rate.
Collection is provided two times per week with no service on Sunday or Christmas Day. Blue garbage bags should not weigh more than 40 lbs each. Solid waste and recycling material must be placed curbside prior to 7:00 AM.
Common to both systems is the City’s bulk collection program, which provides all residents the opportunity to discard unwanted furniture, appliances and other items too large for regular garbage collection.
The City chose Waste Management of South Florida, Inc. to provide these services. A single negotiated franchise agreement was entered into that outlines strict guidelines for Waste Management to adhere to. This agreement not only offers us the comfort in knowing that this critical environmental service is being performed per local, state and federal rules and regulations, but also that Waste Management, the leading waste services provider in North America, is committed to providing our City with the most professional and reliable services available.

Clear Bags for Yard Waste & Leaves
On either of their two garbage days, residents may put out a “Clear Yard Bag” with yard debris as long as they tie a Plantation blue garbage bag onto each clear bag. Otherwise, residents may choose have their clear bags picked up on their regularly scheduled bulk pick-up day.
