Effective October 1, 2014, Plantation’s community bus service (Plantation Tram) will discontinue service.
There are two main reasons. First, is the cost. The company contracted to provide the trams and drivers nearly doubled its cost. The City wanted to keep the service, and asked Broward County to help absorb the increase, however, Broward County could not find the additional funds to pay for the increased service costs. The City did try to offset the cost of that increase this year by charging a nominal charge ($0.50), however we found that many patrons were not paying or were paying only a portion of the charge. Second, ridership fell below the required number to continue the service.
The City of Plantation’s bus service, known as the Plantation Tram, is designed to work in conjunction with Broward County Transit Routes. Beginning November 15, 2013, there is a nominal charge to ride the Plantation Tram – $0.50. Riders who make connections to Broward County Transit routes are expected to pay the associated fares.
The buses are air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible. Just a few of the 29 established stops are: Plantation City Hall, Jacaranda Plaza (Sunrise & University), Plantation Towne Square (Broward & 69th Ave), Westfield Broward Mall, and Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library.
Schedules depicting routes and times are available at all City facilities, the West Regional Library, and on our website .
