The Plantation Gateway Development District is a special purpose taxing district. The City has the power to levy a maximum of two mills ad valorem taxes on real property within the district pursuant to Chapter 163.514 (16)(a) F.S. and by City Ordinance #1537. The specific method of determining the millage is prescribed under Chapter 200 F.S. A proposed millage rate is set every budget year by the Plantation Gateway Board of Directors in consultation with the Gateway Advisory Board including the District’s annual operating budget. Final approval of the proposed millage rate and operating budget for the District is voted by the City Council during the budget hearings on September of every year.
For the 2016 fiscal year, the millage for the Gateway District is set at two mills. The collected ad valorem taxes on real property are the funding source for the Gateway District’s annual operating and capital budgets.
