Market on University
At approximately 11:28 a.m. the City of Plantation received an emergency call regarding an explosion at the Market on University shopping plaza located at 1041 S. University Drive. The nature of the explosion is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall. A number of adjacent properties experienced damage. Nineteen individuals were transported to area hospitals. One of the individuals was a trauma alert that is now in stable condition. Four individuals were treated and released at the scene. There were no fatalities and none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. The Family Reunification Center was opened on July 6th at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the Central Park Multipurpose Center located at 9151 NW 2nd Street and was closed down at 6:00 p.m.

I am a Teco Peoples Gas customer and suspect a gas leak or smell natural gas, who do I contact? First, move to a safe location and call Teco’s customer service number at 877-832-6747. Representatives are available 24/7 to answer calls. If your call goes unanswered, call 911.
My home sustained damaged as a result of the incident. What do I do next? If you believe your property was damaged as a result of this incident, call the Marketplace on University Property Management office at 954-622-4210.
I want to volunteer my time to help those affected by the incident. Who do I contact to offer my help? At this time, no volunteers are needed.

I am seeing so many GoFundMe pages being launched to help individual victims of the incident. Why hasn’t the City set one up for the victims? As a municipal government office, the City is prohibited from collecting funds on behalf of individuals or a third party.
