2006 PLANT AWARDS

The City of Plantation Landscape Planning and Review Board takes great pleasure in announcing the Twenty-Second Annual P.L.A.N.T. Awards Program to be held on April 29, 2006. P.L.A.N.T. is an acronym for “Plantation Landscaping Award for Nurturing Our Town.”

In addition to celebrating our twenty-fifth consecutive year as “TREE CITY USA”, this is also Plantation’s fourteenth year to receive The National Arbor Day Foundation’s Growth Award. The City of Plantation is also one of the Tree City USA communities nationwide to be honored with the prestigious Sterling Tree City USA award.

P.L.A.N.T. Awards was developed to show special appreciation and recognition to businesses, institutions, and individual properties for their outstanding landscape designs and maintenance programs.

This unique program, fully supported and encouraged by the Mayor and the City Council, will serve as a focus to clearly show the major importance that trees and landscaping have within the City.

A group of distinguished judges will qualify and choose winners in each of these categories:

I. Hall of Fame Award

This category recognizes projects in the City that have been a P.L.A.N.T. Award recipient for more than three (3) years. Once a project is placed in the “P.L.A.N.T. Awards Hall of Fame”, it will be ineligible to receive a P.L.A.N.T. award in the same category for five (5) years. With this category, we hope to encourage other properties to enter P.L.A.N.T. Awards, and, at the same time, recognize outstanding long-term commitments from properties that qualify for this category.

J. Environmental Award

This award will be presented to the resident, business, firm, organization, school, etc. that exemplifies extraordinary environmental consciousness. This can be in the form of an environmentally positive project, an ongoing program that benefits the environment, etc. The project can be small…large…or any size in between. Use your imagination! We hope to find projects or programs in our City that, although they may not be totally unique, will show outstanding environmental practices and consciousness. Please attach a complete description to your entry form.

K. Residential Gardens - Single Family and Zero-Lot Line

Projects can range from a small patio to a complete yard. Judging will be based on aesthetics, over all design concepts, environmental sensitivity, and wild life attractiveness.

Projects can range from a small patio to a complete yard. Judging will be based on aesthetics, over all design concepts, environmental sensitivity and wildlife attractiveness.

Please submit 5-10 photos of your project (these will not be returned). Preliminary judging will be based on these photos, so make sure they are of good quality. The top THREE ranking entries will be visited by the staff of the Department of Landscape Architecture for final judging. Your project must be accessible during normal business hours.

The award, in the form of a beautiful engraved plaque, will be presented by City Officials at our Annual Arbor Day Celebration, scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2006, in Council Chambers at City Hall.

The City of Plantation has long been known for its untiring commitment to outstanding landscape as an important environmental consideration in maintaining a quality of life second to none.

Deadline for submission is March 15, 2006. If you would like to nominate a project, please fill in the attached form online and submit it or print and return to:
