Roadway Paving: The asphalt surface on existing City roadways serving certain residential neighborhoods have exceeded their useful life expectancy and in need of replacement. The City has secured the services of Cutler Repaving Inc. to remove existing asphalt surfaces and resurface with a combination of recycled and new asphalt.
Street Lighting Upgrades: Existing street lighting serving City neighborhood roadways is provided by Florida Power & Light Co. (FPL). A street light level study performed by the City of Plantation Engineering Department several years ago for the Park East, Country Club Estates and Plantation Isles neighborhoods revealed a need for lighting improvements.
Stormwater Utility Improvements: The Park East area community is bounded by Sunrise Blvd. to the north, Broward Blvd. to the south, Florida’s Turnpike to the west and State Road 7/US441 to the east. Park East consists primarily of a single family residential neighborhood with some small businesses, medical offices and Plantation General Hospital located along the eastern boundary.
Building Renovations: The existing Public Works Crafts Division building located on the Public Works campus is in generally poor condition and inadequate to meet the current and future needs of the Public Works Department. The City has conceptualized a new 6,000 sf single story CBS building to be constructed just north of the existing building. The proposed building is intended to include a large open work area to accommodate various woodworking power tools, large material storage areas, separate spray booth, electrical materials storage room, paint materials storage room, restroom, breakroom, and small office.
The Public Works Department operates a Grass Division consisting of seven (7) crews assigned with trucks, trailers and grass maintenance equipment. Currently, all trucks and trailers must be kept out in the open due to no storage building availability. The City will construct a 7-bay 9,900 square foot single-story prefabricated metal building with storage areas, break room and restrooms to be located on Public Works campus.
