Obtaining a Local Business Tax Certificate
All businesses operating in the City of Plantation are required to have a business tax certificate. Application for a certificate does not guarantee approval. The business must first comply with all zoning requirements, and then undergo inspections. Home businesses are allowed under limited circumstances. A business found to be operating without a certificate may be subject to fines. All business certificates expire on September 30 and must be renewed annually. Items required when submitting an application
- Completed application
- Copy of Corporate Documents
- Copy of Driver License of applicant
- Any applicable state license
- Letter of Intent
- Must include the following:
- Name of business
- Address of business
- Specific nature of business
- Days and hours of operation
- Number of employees
Additional requirements for a Home Business
- Address on Driver License must match home address
- Letter of Intent
Must include the following:
- Name and address of business
- Specific nature of business
- Explanation of work to be performed in home
- Statement of no employees or clients coming to home
- Statement of no commercial vehicles or signs
- Statement of no storage of equipment or supplies
- Statement of no Association or Landlord, if applicable
- Approval letter from property owner, Home Owner’s Association or Condominium Association, if applicable

Home businesses are excluded from this fee
